Since its founding in 1949, the university has grown to rank among the nation’s top hubs for both teaching and research. The 411-acre campus is situated in Pune’s northwest region. The Poona University Act, which was passed by the Bombay Legislature in 1948, allowed for the founding of the Savitribai Phule Pune University, formerly known as the University of Poona, on February 10, 1949. Dr. M. R. Jayakar became the University’s first vice chancellor that same year.
The government of Bombay, led by Shri B.G. Kher, the Chief Minister and Minister of Education, was very interested in establishing a stunning campus for the university. Because of his work, the University was given a campus spanning 411 acres in early 1949. The campus was leased for 999 years at no premium, with an annual nominal lease rent payment of ₹ One.

Pune University is one of India’s best universities it is located in the northwest of the city. It takes up roughly 411 acres of space. It was founded on February 10, 1949, in accordance with the Poona University Act. There are 46 academic departments at the university. The ‘Oxford of the East’ is how people commonly refer to it. The eligibility criteria requires applicants to have minimum of Master’s Degree with 55 percent marks in their respective category of studies . They should also have cleared the UGC NET or State’s SET examinations.

What is the salary for Professors and Assistant Professors?
The salary of Professors falls in the range of 7th Pay Commission Of Govt. of India with entry pay of Rs.1,44,200 per month.
For Associate Professors the entry level pay is Rs. 1,31,400 per month.
For Assistant Professors the entry level pay is Rs. 57,700 per month.
