About Himachal Pradesh
Himachal Pradesh’s five river basins offer enormous hydro potential. The state is traversed by the rivers Chenab, Rabi, Beas, Satluj, and Yamuna, which originate in the western Himalayas. In addition to providing ample power to the industrial and tourism sectors, the power sector’s development strategy calls for the quick realization of the hydroelectric potential and the implementation of reforms to increase efficiency and deliver high-quality power to consumers at competitive prices.
The region known as “Dev Bhumi” in the western Himachal Pradesh is thought to be the home of gods and goddesses. Both wooden and stone temples can be found scattered throughout the State. Himachal is unique in and of itself because of its rich culture and customs. The Himachal symphony is composed of the gloomy valleys, craggy peaks, glaciers, enormous pines, roaring rivers, and exquisite flora and fauna.
The 25th of January, 1971 saw the statehood of Himachal Pradesh. Before this date, the Union Public Service Commission was carrying out the duties of the Public Service Commission under Article 315 of the Indian Constitution with regard to the civil services and posts related to the Union Territory of Himachal Pradesh. Therefore, the State was required to establish its own Public Service Commission.
However, since a State Public Service Commission could be constituted simultaneously with the attainment of Statehood, the Union Public Service Commission, on a request from the Governor of the State of Himachal Pradesh with the approval of the President of India, agreed to serve the needs of Himachal Pradesh till the establishment of a Public Service Commission for the State or for a period of three months from 25th January, 1971 whichever was earlier.
The Governor of Himachal Pradesh, empowered by Article 318 of the Indian Constitution, issued the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (Members) Regulations, 1971 on April 8, 1971. According to these regulations, the Governor would appoint the Chairman and two Members of the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission.
