The Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) is a state recruitment agency that recruits Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ officers for the Government of Assam and all state government establishments under the Government of Assam, including state public sector undertakings and state autonomous bodies. It is headquartered in Guwahati at Jawahar Nagar, Khanapara, and operates through its own secretariat. It was established on April 1, 1937.The primary mission of the Assam Public Service Commission is to administer recruitment tests, interviews, and examinations in order to select qualified candidates for various civil service positions throughout the state. These positions range from bureaucratic and police services to finance, education, and other key sectors, all of which contribute to Assam’s governance and development.

History of Assam Public Service Commission(APSC)
Since the Commission’s founding, its membership has changed multiple times. In contrast to the 1937–1951 ratio of one Chairman to two Members, the 1951–1986 ratio was one Chairman to two or three Members, the 1986–1991 ratio was one Chairman to six Members, the 1991 ratio was one Chairman to ten Members, and finally, in 2005, an amendment set the Commission’s strength at seven members, comprising one Chairman and six Members.
The Indian Constitution established the Public Service Commission. The Public Service Commission’s provisions are outlined in Chapter II of Part XIV of the Constitution. The Constitution’s provisions guarantee the Commission’s ability to handle matters pertaining to State Service and allow them to carry out their duties in an impartial and fair manner, free from outside influence.
The State Governor appoints the Chairman and Members of the Commission. A member of the Commission, including the Chairman, may serve in that capacity for a maximum of six years, or until they turn sixty-two years old, whichever comes first.
