Who is Mitchell Marsh?

Marsh is the younger sibling of Shaun Marsh and the second-born son of Geoff Marsh, two of whom have represented Australia in international competitions. Brad Sheppard, a former Australian football player, is his cousin, and his sister Melissa Marsh was an elite basketball player. Growing up, he went to Wesley College in Perth, Western Australia.

Marsh was included in the Australian Twenty20 team for their tour of South Africa in September 2011. He was later included in the One Day International team after Brett Lee’s injury forced his withdrawal. In the second Twenty20 International of the series, he made a phenomenal comeback for Australia, hitting four sixes in as many overs, three of which came in the last over of the Australian innings.

He finished with thirty six runs. In the opening game of the The three-series at Harare Sports Club in August 2014, Marsh amassed 89 runs against Zimbabwe. He also added 109 runs for a 4th wicket with Glenn Maxwell and made contributions to partnering for 47 and 33 with George Bailey and Aaron Finch. Later on in the tournament, he defeated South Africa with a score of 86 not out.

Rather than struggling with poor form, Marsh spent a great deal of the season on the sidelines due to injuries. He came and went from the Test setup, never really settling in as a mainstay. He earned his debut and got 100 runs  against Australia in a 2017 Ashes match played in Perth. Despite signing a national agreements for the 2018–19 campaign, Marsh wasn’t a regular player for Australia. He was constantly hurting, sometimes for no other reason than himself. He broke his hand, for instance, in 2019 after hitting a wall following his dismissal from a Sheffield Shield match.

Marsh will not be playing in Saturday’s match against England in Ahmedabad as he has returned home by plane to Perth. This comes after Glenn Maxwell was declared ineligible for the match on Monday due to a concussion sustained on a golf outing.

What’s next for Australian Cricket Team ?

After recovering from a minor calf injury that held him out of the past two games against the Netherlands and New Zealand, Marcus Stoinis is probably fit to return to the team. Cameron Green, meanwhile, is expected to be called up, and Marnus Labuschagne is probably going to stay in the middle order. For the match against England, Australia will only have 13 players fit and the only other players available are Alex Carey and Sean Abbott.

Steven Smith will probably return to his chosen position at number three as a result of Marsh’s absence. However, the absence of two of Australia’s most potent and destructive players—Marsh and Maxwell—for the match against England, where they are trying to secure a semi-final spot, is a severe blow to their balance.

Following his calf problem, Stoinis stated that he hopes to be well enough to bowl ten overs, if needed. Despite his best efforts to persuade selector George Bailey and coach Andrew McDonald that he was fit to play against New Zealand in Dharamsala the previous week, they chose to postpone his return by one week.
