From the seventh to the thirteenth centuries A.D., the Kalinga School of architecture flourished. The most significant monuments from this era are located in and around Puri and Bhubaneswar. The best example of Kalinga architecture is the Mukteswar Temple.
Afterwards, in the sixteenth century, Sri Chaitanya, the leader of the Bhakti Cult, arrived in Odisha and lived his final eighteen years in Puri. During that era, the Pancha Sakha, which included Sri Jagannath Das, Sri Achyutananda Das, Sri Balaram Das, Ananta, and Yasobanta, were notable writers and spiritual leaders.
The pinnacle of temple sculpture and architecture is found in the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar, the Jagannath Temple in Puri, and most famously, the Sun Temple at Konark, a world heritage site. The building of the Konark Temple required a full year’s worth of state revenue, a feat comparable to that of the powerful Moghul Empire, which similarly employed its 12-year resources to construct the globally renowned Taj Mahal.
Modern Odisha was created by Gaurav Madhusudan Das, who was followed in building the state to Himalayan heights of fame and glory by Sri Nabakrushna Chowdhury, Dr. Harekrishna Mahatab, Sri Bijayananda Patnaik, and others.
As a matter of fact, Odisha has evolved into a multifaceted, multicolored, multi splendor, vibrant, and boisterous modern state that is embarking on a journey to become known throughout the world in the current millennium through the Universal Cult of Brotherhood, its distinct cultural heritage, lush forests and wildlife, Chilika Lake’s expansive shoreline, a diverse array of tribes, and a vibrant array of art and culture. Odisha has experienced a renaissance that has brought back its former splendor, glitz, and greatness.
